Laser Microdissection (LMD)
Laser Microdissection (LMD) allows the isolation of a pure population of cells or a specific tissue region from a heterogenous tissue sample. The PALMĀ® Microbeam system enables non-contact sample preparation by combination of Laser Microdissection with Pressure Catapulting. A pulsed nitrogen laser is coupled through the epiflourescence path in an inverted microscope and focused on a micron-sized spot via the objective lenses. The UV-A-laser mediated process dissects selected specimen areas and the laser pressure catapulting drives the sample contact free directly into collection vessel for subsequent RNA/DNA protein extraction.
The above image shows a cryosection of bone pre-and post LMD. This system can be used for:
- Gene expression
- Genomics
- Proteomics
