19/12/05 - SMTC on The Radio

Dr Brendon Noble from The SMTC appeared on BBC Radio 4's "The Material World" to talk about the way our bones and skeletons are constantly changing and reacting to the loads and stresses we put on our skeleton throughout our lives.

17/01/05 - Poster Day, Edinburgh

On 17th January 2005 we held the SMTC Poster Day, the day was very successful with representatives from SHEFC, Smith+Nephew and Novartis in attendance in addition to all the consortium members. The Poster Day was held at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, in the Greenfield Suite and boasted in excess of 50 participants. Lunch was catered for by the University and all in all the day was a complete success.

There were some 35 posters on display ranging from "Effects of Gravity on Crab through Cartilage Regeneration Using Human Stem Cells" to "Mechanosensitive Gene Expression and Gene Therapy".

Prior to the commencement of the Poster Day, the SMTC Steering Committee and the SMTC Management Committee held their annual committee meetings. Much was discussed and many new ideas were bought into the Consortium for possible future directions.

14/12/04 - Talk by Professor David Jones

On 14th December 2004, Professor David Jones gave two talks titled "Divergent rapid tension responses in osteoblasts following a uniaxial stretch" and "Made for Space for Use on Earth - Fluorescence Microscopy for the 3rd World"

9/12/04 - Talks by Professor Heikki Kroger and Anitta Mahonen

On 9th December 2004, Professor Heikki Kroger gave a talk titled "Results from Kuopio Osteoporosis Study and Periprosthetic Implant Project"

Dr Anitta Mahonen, a colleague of Professor Kroger, then gave a talk titled "Glucocorticoid-induced changes in osteoblastic cell proteome" followed by another talk "Osteoinductive gene transfers"
