Material Testing

Uniaxial and Multi- axis Material testing Machines

Uniaxial Unit:
Zwick/Roell servohydraulic material testing machine. Specified with a ±25 kN load frame; load cell capacities of ±1,000, ±100, and ±20 N; and a single actuator with a 100 mm stroke. Test conditions are defined and optimised through an easy to use computer interface, and can be run with strain, load, or displacement as the controlling variable. Suitable for conducting dynamic testing, or single tests to failure, software is also available for real time data collection and post-acquisition data processing.

The Uses.
The machine is a generic, uniaxial testing machine, and as such can be readily adapted for a number of different tensile or compressive tests. It has so far been used for testing orthopaedic implants for their ability to resist subsidence under dynamic, high-load conditions.

Multiaxial Unit

This unit allows specimens to be tested in torsion as well as in compression/tension. It has been used for the work on optimal placement of knee replacement in a laboratory simulation of the surgical procedure.
